Serenade (2017)

soprano and alto saxophones

In composing this piece, my desire was to write music that would be straightforward, and direct. The general mood is light, so the title "Serenade" seemed fitting. Each movement is a little character piece, capturing a single mood or feeling. The notes A and B, the first initials of the two dedicatees, and the whole-step between them, serve as the generative material for much of the piece. This piece was written for and dedicated to my two dear friends, Abigail Cleveland and Brianna Mansbart.
